Duties of the RRSEU Building Representative

[Form in PDF format]

RRSEU will reimburse Building Representatives each month for the total Union dues paid by the BR.  In return I agree to perform the following duties to the best of my ability each month.

  1. To recruit and enroll members of the Union.  The membership drive will be a joint effort by the Executive Council, the BR Council, and the individual RRSEU Building Representatives at the work site, with resources and incentives provided to the BR.

  2. To keep Union members informed about Union activities, services, achievements, and developments.

  3.  To know where and to whom to guide members for additional information and special assistance.  This would include the following:

    1. Receiving materials from the Union, distributing them promptly to the members, or posting them on an Union bulletin board, in a display area, or on special shelves in the staff lounge or other designated area.

    2. Maintaining in the staff lounge or school library a file of the informational material which has been previously posted on the bulletin board as reference material for the members in the building (legislation, member benefits, research materials, notices, etc.)

    3. Requesting time at staff meetings or, when requested by the Union executive committee or BR council, calling special meetings of Union members in the building to review or call attention to information and material received.

  4. To represent his/her fellow members’ interests, needs, and wishes at BR Council meetings; to be available to receive opinions, requests, and reactions from those members and transmit these to the appropriate Union level.

  5. To attend all official meetings called by the Union to:

    1. Become informed on the program and services of the Union.

    2. Speak officially for the members he/she represents.

    3. Help determine the policies of the Union.

  6. To report to the members all business transacted, seek their advice on issues pending, and interpret the significance of all actions to the individual members and the group.

  7. To stimulate active participation in Union work among fellow members by cultivating within the staff the desire to seek positions of Union responsibility such as participating in committee work, running for Union office and/or positions on the Executive Board, attending Union meetings, or any other form of active participation.
